Tattoo removal is a very difficult thing to do, a lot of many people who get their tattoos done they find rejection in certain jobs as if they have to apply for air force or army or any other defense forces or as an air hostess.

Laser Treatment for Tattoo Removal

Medical lasers work by the principle that every color has got a different laser, the color pigment is bombarded into small tiny particles which can be removed by the body’s defense mechanism. Let’s say there is a black color, for black tattoo there is a Q-Switch laser which targets the black pigment in the skin. When we do this laser on the black pigment the big particles of the pigment bombarded into small particles that are taken up by the body’s defense mechanism cells called macrophages.

macrophages eat up these small particles and clear it up by the body’s defense mechanism leading to fading up of the tattoo.

One would need multiple session because in one session the complete tattoo clearance is not possible. Depending upon the depth of the tattoo multiple sessions would be required and every time a different maneuver would be done. If the tattoo is very deep the doctor may use a CO2 laser to make the Q-Switch penetrate deeper into the tattoo.

Laser tattoo removal is a gold standard of tattoo removal, surgery has got too inferior results in tattoo removal because surgery will always lead to permanent scarring of that area.

Laser tattoo removal is not painful at all, a numbing cream is applied before laser tattoo removal is taken and if proper numbing cream is applied it is never painful.

The sessions for laser tattoo removal depends upon the depth of the pigment that has been deposited in the skin and also what kind of a pigment was used and what kind of ink was used to make the tattoo. The doctor can decide on the first tattoo removal session because it has to be given in a gradual way without burning the skin because once the skin is burnt it leads to scar tissues which will difficult to the laser to penetrate the scar tissue.

In fair skin people who have got the tattoo done, their skin can go 100% back to normal after laser tattoo removal if it is done in the correct way but the people who have dark skin type, they may have a hyperpigmented area where the tattoo was made, it is called as a ghost tattoo that means the body’s own pigment is also targeted with the laser that leads to ghost tattoo kind of appearance. The ghost tattoo means that tattoo won’t be there but there will be a white shadow of the tattoo called as a ghost tattoo and it happens only in fair skin people and the pigment cells may recover after 12 or 18 months.
